Furman places 6th in Great American Mock Trial Invitational

The mock trial team returned home early this morning from a very productive weekend in our nation's capital. The Great American Mock Trial Invitational, hosted by the defending champions from the University of Virginia, was held at the Prettyman United States Court House. It was a singularly impressive assembly with 26 of the nation's elite teams constituting the field. The team finished in sixth place with a 5-2-1 record, Ben Adams '08 was named an outstanding attorney (for the 4th time!) and Renee Keisacker won outstanding witness accolades for her portrayal of Dawn Francis, the victim (a social worker stabbed with an HIV-infected needle when she was attempting to remove the child from the defendant's home) in this year's case.

The Paladins won and tied with Harvard B, won both ballots against Cal-Berkeley, lost both ballots to Harvard A (the defending national champions, one ballot by a single point), and defeated Richmond on both ballots.

Paladins win Robert E Sanders Invitational

The Paladins took two teams to the Robert E. Sanders Mock Trial Invitational, hosted by Eastern Kentucky University, at the Robert Stephens Courthouse, Lexington, KY, this weekend. Twenty-two teams from the Midwest and South competed at this tournament. In addition to claiming the first place trophy, Furman also took 6th place with a record of 6-2.

The championship team is led by Zachary Corrigan '08, Rockford, Illinois, and Brittany Miller '09, Kingsport, Tennessee.

Paladins dominate Midlands Invitational Mock Trial Tournament

The mock trial season kicked off this past weekend with the Paladins fielding two teams at the Midlands Invitational Mock Trial Tournament hosted by the University of South Carolina-Columbia. While it was a small tournament (six teams), our students dominated the competition, taking first and second places with a perfect 8-0 and 7-1 records, respectively. Furman also won two of three top attorney and two of three top witness awards.

Furman attends Pohlmann Invitational Tournament

The Paladin Mock Trial team returned from the Pohlmann Invitational having captured 3rd place at the Pohlmann Invitational, which featured an elite field of 26 teams from the Midwest and South, and Ben Adams, was named an outstanding attorney.

The Paladins finished with a 5-3 record, defeating Drake University on both ballots, the University of Iowa on both ballots, winning one ballot and losing one ballot against the University of Texas, and losing both ballots to Washington University of St. Louis, the tournament runner-up.

The team was led by seniors Leah Branch '08, Sewickley, PA, and Matt Kuhn '08, Mocksville, NC.
