The winter has not brought a stop to the Paladins Domination Tour. On January 27th, the most seasoned team won the Ramblin' Wreck Invitational at Georgia Tech in undefeated fashion, and this past weekend, that team won the Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A. regional held at Furman. The freshman-sophomore team earned 5th place in the Kilpatrick Stockton LLP regional which also was held at Furman this past weekend; the second junior-senior team, finished 6th in the Kilpatrick Stockton LLP regional, and a team composed of mostly new students finished with a 2.5 record. The regional victories mean that the Paladins have qualified one team for the national championship in Minneapolis in early April and one team for the national consolation tournament in Memphis in mid-March.

Location: Brooklyn, New York, site of this year's Downtown Classic Mock Trial Invitational. The champions of this year's Downtown, hosted by New York University, are the Paladins! The Downtown field attracted an elite field of 26 teams from across the nation, who were judged by the always opinionated New York Bar. Led by Matt Kuhn '08, Mocksville, NC, and Leah Branch '08, Sewickley, PA, Furman finished by a 6.5 record, winning and losing against Cornell University, defeating Morehouse College and Drake University, and defeating and tying the University of Maryland.

Two teams of Paladin Mockers competed in separate tournaments on the weekend of January 11. The Paladins' most seasoned team competed at the Demon Deacon Invitational at Wake Forest, Winston-Salem, NC, and the newbies were in the field at the Willis Whichard Invitational, Campbell University, Buies Creek, NC. Led by Matt Kuhn '08, Mocksville, NC, and Leah Branch '08, Sewickley, PA, the seasoned team finished in 10th place in a 28-team field that included the very best teams in the nation. Ben Adams '08, Taylors, SC, won his fifth outstanding attorney award of the year. The team finished with a 5-3 record, splitting with Notre Dame, defeating Maryland, losing to UCLA, and defeating Duke.

"The Paladins are having a magical mock trial season." Yesterday, the team captured the championship with a perfect 8-0 record at the Tobacco Road Invitational, hosted by UNC-Chapel Hill and North Carolina. The field included many national powers among its 38 teams. This team, led by Zachary Corrigan '08, Rockford, Illinois, and Brittany Miller '09, Kingsport, Tennessee has lost only one ballot by 2 points in three tournaments, while capturing the crowns at the Midlands, Sanders, and, now the Tobacco Road Invitationals. The Paladins have a long tradition of excellence in mock trial, but this season's successes haven't been equalled since the 2000-2001 season, when the team led by Coach David Koysza lost a single ballot during the fall of 2000.
